Pediatrician Sarah McCann McNeill, MD, FAAP, says becoming a mom made her a better doctor. “I have a much deeper understanding now of how hard parenting can be, and I know that we are all just doing the best we can with the information and resources we have.”
A native of Minden, Dr. McNeill has joined Willis Knighton Preferred Pediatrics in Bossier City. She said she became a doctor because “choosing a career that allowed me to help people was always very important to me.”
She also believes parents play a critical role in their children’s healthcare. “I believe strongly in education without judgment and in shared decision-making whenever possible,” she said. “If there are multiple reasonable options, I want to talk through those options with the parent and work together to find something that makes sense for their child and for their family.”
Dr. McNeill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences at LSU-Shreveport and a Doctor of Medicine degree at LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine. She also completed her internship and residency at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center. She is licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners and certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
She has a son and a daughter. “They are the brightest lights in my life. Being their mom is my most important job.”
In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her family, swimming, fishing and kayaking. She also loves cooking and entertaining friends and family. “And when I have some quiet time, I enjoy crocheting.”
